How soon will I get my registration codes?With credit card orders, you will receive an email containing your registration codes as soon as your order is processed. This is normally within 30 minutes of placing the order. Orders by check or purchase order take longer. Do I need to download the software after I order?That's not necessary if you have the trial version. You can simply type your registration codes into the trial version and it will be converted to the full version. But if you don't have the trial version, you can download it here. Can I get the software on a CD-ROM?Yes, when you order there is an option for the CD-ROM delivery method. There is an extra charge for the CD and this includes shipping by U.S. First Class mail. (Overseas shipping costs more.) We usually ship CD orders the same day they are received. What's the difference between the Presentation Edition, Playback Only Edition and the Exhibitor's Bundle?
Do you have discounts for quantity orders, schools or nonprofit organizations?Yes, quantity discounts are listed on the order forms. (We also offer site licenses for bigger organizations.) General FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):Q. How can I move my game show from my desktop computer to my laptop computer? Q. Are there more sample quizzes available? Q. How does the buzz-in competition mode work? Q. Is Game Show Presenter safe to download? Q. How can I move my game show from my desktop computer to my laptop computer? A. You will need to have the Game Show Presenter application installed on BOTH your desktop and laptop machines. (Your registered user license covers you as the user of both machines, so use your same registration codes on the laptop.) Next, on your desktop open the Quiz Editor in Game Show Presenter and choose SAVE A COPY from the QUIZ menu. (In versions earlier than 3.5, this feature was named TRANSFER SHOW.) It will ask you to name the file. Note the location where you are saving it, because this is the file you need to find and move to the laptop. This small file now contains all the settings for your show -- quiz, title, credits, etc. Move the file you just created to the laptop. (You can email it to yourself, put it on a floppy, etc.) On the laptop, start Game Show Presenter, open the Quiz Editor, from the QUIZ menu choose LOAD A COPY. It will ask you for the file -- that's when you navigate to the file you just created and moved. The program will read in the quiz file and offer to load it immediately. You are all set! Note: If you frequently move files, you could just install Game Show Presenter on a USB portable drive and move that. Q. My company has restrictions on what software can be installed on the hard drive. How can I use Game Show Presenter? Can I put it on a CD? A. Game Show Presenter will not run off a CD-ROM, however, you can load it onto removable media such as a keychain drive or scan disk or a Zip disk. Here are instructions on how to install GSP on a USB removable drive. Also note, we are happy to talk to the IT Dept. at your company if they need to know more about Game Show Presenter software. Just have them Contact Us. Q. Are there more sample quizzes available? A. The Quiz Exchange is where you can download new quiz material, upload quizzes you've made that you want to share and download quizzes that other users want to share. (Version 2.0 or later is required for this.) Q. How does the buzz-in competition mode work? A. Version 3 and later of Game Show Presenter includes an option for "Buzz-in Competition" (see control box screen shot below). While the normal mode of competition is for the players to rotate turns with the quiz questions, the "Buzz-in" mode has every player compete to be the first to answer. In buzz-in mode, you (the facilitor of the game show presentation) see which player is first to respond to a question and you simply press a number or F-key that is assigned to that player. (Player 1 would be the "1" key or "F1" key, etc.) Then that player's name appears on-screen and that player has about 5 seconds to give his answer. You would then type A, B, C or D to indicate which answer was given. And Game Show Presenter would then show if it was a right or wrong answer, play appropriate sound effects and adjust the player's score. Since it can be hard to identify who was first to respond, many schools and training organizations use buzzer lockout systems to do this. These systems provide a buzzer button for each player to push when the player thinks he knows the answer. The buzzer system determines who was first and locks out all the players who buzz-in late. Most systems use a light to show which player buzzed in first. These buzzer systems are not required to use Game Show Presenter, but they can definitely make the facilitator's job easier and can add a fun element to the game show experience. Game Show Presenter does not hook up directly to these systems. It supports the use of these systems by displaying the quiz question while waiting until you identify which player buzzed in first, then displaying that player's name on screen and adjusting that player's score after the answer is given.
Q. My game show title won't save. I created a quiz, gave it a name, but the title of the game show did not change, even though I clicked the SAVE button. Why?
Q. In the quiz editor, I created a new quiz, typed in my first question, but now I can't seem to create any more questions by clicking on the NEXT button. A. You've got the wrong button in mind. Click the NEW ? button to get a blank question screen. Then NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons to cycle through your quiz content during editing. (Note: In version 3, these buttons were changed to VCR-style arrow buttons to reduce the chance of misunderstanding.) Q. I purchased my registration but don't see where to put in the codes. Do I need to download something? A. All you need to do is convert your trial version to the full version by entering the codes you received. To do that, start Game Show Presenter and when the button panel appears after the splash screen, then click ENTER REGISTRATION KEYS. You'll see a screen where you can enter your codes and everything else is automatic! Q. I just wrote a 10 question quiz, but when I click PLAY, the game only uses the first few questions and then the show ends. It never uses all my 10 questions. Why?
A. The program lets you control how many questions are asked per player in a game. You can control this setting under the PREFERENCES menu if you open the command Show Title and Set-up (shown above). Look for the slider bar that let's you select how many questions will be asked. If you want a game with 1 player who gets 10 questions, slide it up to 10. If you are planning to have 2 players, slide it to 5. After you do that, if you still have trouble getting the right number of questions in your game show, turn off the feature named "Use Difficulty Ratings." This way the program will not try to limit your Easy questions to round 1, etc., by using the difficulty ratings. (Note: Version 3 added an Automatic mode that will use as many questions as possible based on the size of your quiz and the number of players in the game.) Q. When I start Game Show Presenter, I get an error message about "write permission error". What's that? A. This is either of two things. It could mean on Windows you have opened more than one instance of the program at once. If you have two copies running on the same machine, they conflict. So quit both, then launch again making sure to only start one copy. If the advice above did not fix it, the second most likely explanation is that a key file has been turned to a read-only file, but it needs to be a read-write. (If you transferred the program by burning it to a CD-ROM, this is likely to change the read-only attribute without your knowledge because CD is usually a read-only medium.) To fix this, search your hard disk for the file "qfile.cxt". When found, check that file's properties to make sure the attribute "read-only" is NOT checked. (Right click, select Properties and look under Attributes). Then restart the program. Q. Is Game Show Presenter safe to download? A.
