Installing on a USB Drive |
 |
Many Game Show Presenter users have more than one computer and therefore need to transport the software and their quiz presentation. One of the easiest
ways to do that is simply install Game Show Presenter on a portable USB drive. This page has details on how to do that. |

| Q. What is a USB drive and why is it useful with Game Show Presenter software? |
 |
A. USB drives are small, portable storage devices about the size of your thumb that plug into the USB ports of Windows and Macintosh computers
that support USB. The drives go by many names: thumb drives, scan disks, keychain drives, USB drives, jump drives, etc. Prices are falling and good USB drives can cost as little as $35,
which makes them a convenient and cheap way to move your work from one computer to another. Game Show Presenter only needs about 15 megabytes when it is installed, so even a small capacity
USB drive should be able to handle that. |
|
| Since many presenters, trainers and educators use more than one computer, a USB drive is a handy way to take a presentation program like Game Show Presenter with you. (But be careful about
virus protection and don't lose your drive!) |
| Q. Can't I accomplish the same thing by burning the program to a CD? A. No, Game Show Presenter will not run off a CD-ROM. It
needs to be stored on media where the program can write its internal data to disk. CDs are most often read-only media.
Q. How do I install Game Show Presenter on a USB drive? |
 |
| A. When you run the installer (gameshow.exe), there is a screen (shown above) with a BROWSE button that lets you choose a location where the program is installed. By default,
the program installs on the main hard drive of the computer. But you can change that by clicking the BROWSE button in the Windows installer and picking your USB drive as the
location. Just make sure the USB drive is already plugged-in. Also, make sure when you use the browse button that the destination path you choose ends with a folder name such as "Game Show
Presenter folder". This will put all of the program's many parts in a single location. |
